Designer Tommaso Gecchelin has a great love for Apple products, resulting in the MacBook Touch concept design that plays with the idea of Apple flirting with something smaller compared to what it normally releases where notebooks are concerned. With the advancements achieved in flexible OLED technology, this could very well hold the key to the MacBook Touch concept by providing rich color and resolution density required for a smaller display without sipping up too much juice or being easily damaged.

According to Gecchelin, flexibility is a more highly prized design factor compared to hard rigidness at the moment since current Apple notebooks trend toward a unibody construction.

Might as well hear it from the horse’s mouth where new products are concerned. The latest rumor would involve a listing for a particular “MacBook Mini” in Adium, and we wonder whether the way this term has surfaced bears any resemblance to how the MacBook Air initially surfaced in Adium’s stats, with plenty of people having healthy debates on the existence of the said device before Apple finally made it official. Ah well, as we always say about rumors – it would be better to adopt a wait-and-see attitude, after all, why chase after shadows? It just can’t stop – rumors of Apple coming up with a netbook version of the MacBook.

The good thing is that Applehas a great incentive to make this work as this costs them time (and money) to replace. Many more photos atiFixit
You will notice that while the battery is not very difficult to replace, it does require opening the box and we suspect that Apple will offer a replacement service at no other additional cost (other than the battery itself). Apple claims that most users won’t ever need to replace the battery because it should last an average of 5 years. The tear down shows some interesting details, like the battery (60Wh) and the access to the hard drive, in case you plan for an SSD future.

Most importantly, a1. 5 Gbps SATA-I Geforce 9400M chipset does not exist, as far as I know. The situation gets even more confusing as some users are reporting seeing a 3Gbps SATA, while others see a 1. 5 Gbps one. First of all, I believe that NVIDIA has never produced a single GeForce 9400M motherboard chipset (aka ION) that doesn’t handle SATA-2 (3Gbps). And even if they did, it would not really save abuck on the chip, as long as the chip size is identical.

5Gbps speeds (the previous models have a 3Gbps SATA hard drive controller) and from the first benchmarks, it looks like disk performance is logically lower, if you have a fast disk, like an SSD – even 7200rpm laptop hard drive often don’t reach 120MBps (Mac rumors reports [SSD] performance going from 225MB/s down to 115MB/s in disk benchmarks. There’s some buzz this morning about the 2009 Macbook Pro exhibiting SATA 1. ). Ouch.

We’ll be waiting for an official statement from Apple. Because the hardware supports SATA-II, there is a slight good chance that this can be updated in the future. What if 1. What if it was a shortcut to ship on time? 5Gbps consumes less power?

Then what happened? We’re not sure, but consider these scenarios: what if some computer shipped with a SATA-I disk?

Apple will not send its polycarbonate MacBooks to the wilderness, as they are working on an industrial design overhaul which will see the final product being released months down the road. This new redesign will most probably result in a slimmer, lighter enclosure alongside a restructured internal architecture, making it the first time in over three years where plastic MacBooks will receive an aesthetic makeover since their 2006 launch that marked Apple’s transition to Intel processors.
